Food Biz Kids: Hershey Cookie vs. Oreo

March 5, 2007
'The texture is delicious to my fingers.' The kids think Hershey cookies are a match for Oreos.

If you have a new product you want to test on our 7th- and 8th-grade panelists, contact Diane Toops at [email protected], or (630) 467-1300, ext. 321.

Hershey's Cookies, Milk Chocolate Layered; Hershey Co., Hershey, Pa.

Felix Gomez, 8th grade:
When I saw the package, it looked very appealing to me. The picture makes my mouth water. The taste is amazing. They are crunchy to a point where it is good. The scent is so deep the inside of my mouth tingles. I think all chocolate lovers will enjoy this treat because it is like a better version of an Oreo. Everyone needs this product, because it is too good to turn down.

Kira Heckathorne, 8th grade:
I think the packaging for Hershey Cookies looks OK. It's plain, but sort of eye-catching. The taste is also OK. It reminds me a lot of Oreos, but I think Oreos are better. The texture is good to dip in milk, which makes it a good cookie for dessert. I don't think it has a smell, which isn't a good or a bad thing. I don't think it's needed, because it isn't as good as Oreos.

Joshua Sanders, 8th grade:
Hershey's packaging is very appealing; it represents the product well. The cookies taste like chocolate and a sweet type of vanilla. They are delicious and a nice size. Yes, I think you need this; it's a great treat.

Brook Toland, 8th grade:
The package looks really good; I mean the picture, not the box. I think they did a great job at not making the box look really colorful but still delicious. The taste is phenomenal! The smell is mouthwatering, and the texture is delicious to my fingers. But, I think they need to make the cookies a little bit bigger, because no one will want to eat just one small cookie, even if they get only one.

Ardan Kelly Lowastein, 8th grade:
Hershey's packaging is easy-to-open, has great coloring and a simple, conveniently portable form. The taste and texture are soft and tasty, but it needs to be made with dark chocolate and with a gooier filling – maybe a marshmallow center.

Claire McDonald, 8th grade:
I really like these Hershey's Cookies. The shape of them is cool because not that many cookies are rectangular. They taste rich and creamy and a bit like Oreos. I especially like the cream in the middle – it is really sweet! Overall, the cookies taste really good. I would definitely recommend them.

Eli Golden, 8th grade:
First thing I saw was the box was double sealed, which was good. I noticed the box made it look good, and it's a great idea, but when I taste the cookie, it's much like an Oreo. I love Oreos, so I think these cookies taste good. I think this is a good product, and I would buy it.

Briana McCorkle, 8th grade:
The packaging looks really appealing, and it looks just like Hershey's candy. The function is nice. It tastes like an Oreo, but is really sweet. It smells like a regular cookie. I would recommend it to other kids as an afternoon snack.

Gabriel Mento, 8th grade:
Hershey's Cookies smell really chocolaty. They taste like an Oreo, but better. The actual cookie is crunchy and the filling is really smooth and creamy. As for the box, it definitely makes the cookie look better than it is, but the cookie itself still looks really good. If I saw them in a store, they would catch my attention.

Gabriella Landeros, 8th grade:
The packaging looks good and comfortable for a home snack. It tastes better than Oreos, chocolaty, and smells very good. Little kids would like them, and it would be very practical for moms in a hurry.

Dontrell Knighten, 8th grade:
The Hershey's Cookies packaging is OK. It smells really good though. The cookie itself has a rough texture, but the filling is smooth and melts in your mouth. They taste similar to Oreos. If it was up to me, you need cookies to survive.
