2009 is the “Year of the Blueberry”! Frozen blueberries are in abundant supply. For product developers, this means exceptional value and a stable source of supplies. Consumer awareness of the healthfulness of blueberries has boosted consumption — last year over 1,300 blueberry-containing products were introduced. Big, blue frozen blueberries provide fruit identity attractive to health-conscious consumers. USHBC research found that consumers want blueberries in every bite. Frozen blueberries retain their flavor, texture, shape and color; are easy and convenient for formulating; and ensure freshness while preserving beneficial nutrients. Locally sourced blueberries mean a favorable carbon footprint.
