CoQ-10's heat stability and storage

Q: In reading your article on CoQ-10, I was wondering how heat-stable it is and how long the powder form will hold up in storage. Also, what’s the best inert medium for adding CoQ to food?

A: Dr. Mark Anthony responds:

CoQ-10 in powdered form melts at about 49°C (120°F) and turns into an orange oil. The oil is stable to significantly higher heat. But you don’t need heat to extract it. CoQ is moderately soluble in alcohol, and highly soluble in hexane (but that isn’t food-safe). It’s a very stable molecule of a ring structure and long chain, so it holds up in storage for a long time — months, even years.
