Bush Brothers opens $100 million flagship plant

07/29/2004

Bush Brothers & Co. in June dedicated a $100 million, 200,000-sq-ft. plant in Chestnut Hill, Tenn., which will be the main production facility for its famous canned baked beans. Technically, the state-of-the-art facility is an expansion of Bush’s very first plant and original headquarters, built in 1908. The company has since moved its corporate headquarters to Knoxville, Tenn.

The plant features continuous-flow hydrostatic cookers instead of retorts to make the company’s canned baked beans. The construction has been under way for nearly three years, and the addition actually became operational two months ago. It increased employment at the site by 50 people to a total of 330.
