American Culinary ChefsBest (ACC), the independent judging organization that recognizes and honors America's best products, recently taste-tested the most popular snack food categories, just in time for the Super Bowl. Categories included classic potato chips, refrigerated guacamole, tortilla chips, pretzels, potato crisps and kettle chips to name a few.Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest one-day food consumption event behind Thanksgiving, according the American Institute of Food Distribution. And the snack food industry reports that Americans double their average daily snack food consumption on Super Bowl Sunday to 30.4 million pounds.
What snack foods do Americans favor most during the championship fight on the gridiron? According to the past figures from the Snack Food Association, Super Bowl fans consume 11 million pounds of potato chips, 13.2 million pounds of avocados, 8.2 million pounds of tortilla chips, 4.3 million pounds of pretzels, 3.8 million pounds of popcorn and 2.5 million pounds of snack nuts. Lays were chosen as America’s best tasting classic potato chip for its golden brown color with few imperfections, a moderate potato and fresh oil flavor.
