PALATINIT of America enters new world of opportunity as BENEO-Palatinit Inc.
PALATINIT of America has officially become BENEO-Palatinit Inc. With this name change and a new identity, the company moves forward into a growing world of opportunities in the functional food industry as part of the new BENEO Functional Food Group.
BENEO-Palatinit Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of BENEO-Palatinit GmbH (formerly PALATINIT GmbH), headquartered in Mannheim, Germany. BENEO-Palatinit develops and markets ISOMALT, the No. 1 sugar replacer in hard candies worldwide and the only one made from real sugar. The ISOMALT family of low-glycemic, low-caloric and toothfriendly sugar replacers can be found in a wide variety of foods promoting health and wellness with good taste, including confectionery products, chocolate products, baked goods, cereals, and more.
BENEO-Palatinit also markets Palatinose, a functional carbohydrate for health and wellness food and beverage applications, which it introduced in 2005. It is the only low-glycemic sugar that provides prolonged energy in the form of glucose to the body. In 2005, BENEO-Palatinit also introduced a new multifunctional pharmaceutical excipient for the formulation of solid dosage forms under the brand name galenIQ.
As part of the BENEO Functional Food Group of Südzucker AG, BENEO-Palatinit GmbH and BENEO-Palatinit Inc. have joined forces with leading food ingredients producers BENEO-Orafti and BENEO-Remy under one prevailing mission: Connecting nutrition and health.
BENEO-Orafti, the world leader in the production of chicory products, develops and markets active food ingredients such as inulin and oligofructose for the food and animal nutrition industries and bio-based chemicals for cosmetic and chemical applications. BENEO-Remy, world market leader in the production of rice derivatives, markets and produces starches, flours, and proteins, and has begun producing stabilized rice bran. The company’s product portfolio also includes Nutriz, a rice concentrate that is used in non-dairy drinks and desserts.
The decision of Südzucker AG to unite the strengths of Orafti, Palatinit and Remy came in response to the rapid changes spreading across the worldwide food and beverage markets. In the face of new emerging opportunities in the functional food market, increasing globalization, and the rapidly growing importance of adequate nutritional policies, the BENEO Functional Food Group was created to rise to these new challenges.
The ability of BENEO-Palatinit, BENEO-Orafti and BENEO-Remy to work together and share their knowledge and expertise enables the group to produce new market opportunities and help food manufactures to develop balanced, healthy and functional food as well as feed products not only for the respective companies but also for their customers in North America and around the world.
Based in Mannheim, Germany, BENEO-Palatinit was founded in 1979 and is one of the fastest growing members of the SÜDZUCKER AG - Europe’s largest sugar producer. It is part of the Functional Food Group BENEO, founded in autumn 2007, which also includes BENEO-Orafti as well as BENEO-Remy.
BENEO-Palatinit employs some 200 people in Mannheim and at its production facilities in Offstein/Palatinate. The company has a global presence with subsidiaries in the USA and Singapore, as well as 45 sales agencies in various countries.
BENEO-Palatinit manufactures the internationally approved products ISOMALT, Palatinose and galenIQ, all of which are derived from pure beet sugar. Each product is characterised by its tooth-friendliness, low glycemic response and a mild, sugar-like sweetness. Moreover, the sugar replacer ISOMALT contains only half the calories of sugar. With tailor-made variants the ISOMALT family is available for a wide range of applications.
Worldwide, approximately 1800 products are made with ISOMALT – in sugarfree hard-boiled candies, it is the internationally most widely used ingredient. The new sugar Palatinose is characterised by a long-lasting energy supply. As a result, it has a wide range of application possibilities in foods and beverages with a sports- and wellness positioning.
For pharmaceutical applications, BENEO-Palatinit produces the excipient galenIQ which is chemically also based on hydrogenated isomaltulose, but manufactured according to pharmaceutical guidelines.
BENEO-Palatinit offers comprehensive service and consultancy to customers, including production technology, formulation development and product optimization as well as regulatory advice, market research and marketing support.
BENEO-Palatinit has been ISO 9001 certified since 1994.
