Commodities Affecting General Mills

General Mills Inc.'s profit took a hit over the summer as efforts by the food company to protect against rising commodity costs ended up backfiring amid price swings.

General Mills Chief Executive Kendall Powell predicted that other food and grain-related companies are likely to report similar financial reverberations as a result of swings in some commodity prices.
