According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, U.S.Senator Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, will host a press conference on March 18 with Senator Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., to announce an agreement between the food and beverage industry and public health and education groups on national school nutrition standards for foods sold in schools.
The agreement is included in Lincoln’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act released today to reauthorize child nutrition programs. The Act makes the largest investment in federal child nutrition programs to date. These programs play a critical role in preventing hunger and promoting healthy diets among children from birth until the end of secondary school.
The Press Conference will be held Thursday, March 18, 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time at the Senate Agriculture Committee Hearing Room, SR-328A.
U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., U.S. Senator Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, D-Cal. will be making the announcement while representatives from the food and beverage industry, public health organizations, and education groups will be in attendance.
