$270 million plant to make adult nutrition products.

Abbott Laboratories’ Abbott Nutrition business will build a $270 million plant in Tipp City, Ohio, that will make “two of the company's fastest-growing adult brands, Ensure and Glucerna, for the North America market,” according to a statement. The plant, which will specialize in aseptic packaging technology, will employ approximately 240 people. Groundbreaking is expected in April with the plant operational in late 2013.

"As the U.S. population continues to age, particularly baby boomers, this new plant will enable us to meet the fast-growing demand for our leading adult liquid nutrition products, Ensure and Glucerna," said John Landgraf, Abbott’s executive vice president for global nutrition. "It will be a key addition to our global manufacturing network that will allow the company to gain important operational efficiencies." Abbott's nutrition business has approximately $6 billion in sales.

Abbott Nutrition's U.S. headquarters and other operations are in Columbus, Ohio, site of the former Ross Products, which Abbott acquired.
