Brynwood Partners to acquire children's drink business from J.W. Childs Associates.

Brynwood Partners VII LP announced Jan. 14 it's agreed to acquire Sunny Delight Beverages Co., Cincinnati, for an undisclosed price from Winter Street Opportunities Fund LP, an investment fund managed by J.W. Childs Associates.

Sunny Delight was founded 51 years ago "by two fathers looking for a better-tasting orange juice drink for their children." It came to be owned by Procter & Gamble Co., and was sold in 2004 to J.W. Childs Associates.

Sunny Delight claims sales of $400 million and employs 480. It operates four manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and owns three beverage brands: Sunny Delight, Fruit2O and Veryfine.

Brynwood VII already owns Harvest Hill Beverage Co., owner of the Juicy Juice, Hug and Daily's brands. While operating as separate companies, Sunny Delight and Harvest Hill will explore ways to seek synergies that could benefit both companies.
