Symrise Flavor & Nutrition Announces New Appointments to Top Positions

On Sept. 19, 2008, several new appointments to top positions at Symrise Flavor & Nutrition, North America, were announced, leading off with the naming of Dr. Matthias Guentert as President, Symrise Flavor & Nutrition Division, North America.

In accepting his new role, Dr. Guentert said, “It is with great pleasure that I assume this new position at Symrise. When it comes to innovative flavor solutions, powerful marketing and consumer insight capabilities, the highest standards of quality and service and the broadest technology base, Symrise has it all. I’m looking forward to leading the division toward substantial growth in the United States.”

Dr. Guentert has been with Symrise for the past 22 years, forging significant contributions to the organization’s growth. In his association with Symrise, he has garnered vast experience in Fundamental Research, Applied Analytical Research, Flavor Development, Flavor Innovations, Quality Control, Regulatory and, most recently, in the area of Supply Chain. In May, 1999, he began working at Symrise’s U.S. headquarters; before that date, he was located at the company’s headquarters in Holzminden, Germany.  Among Dr. Guentert’s most recent accomplishments has been his leadership role in the integration that followed the important Chr. Hansen acquisition. He continues to be a member of Symrise’s Global Flavor Leadership Team.

Reporting to Dr. Guentert in the North American Region and to Global President Dr. Heinz-Juergen Bertram at the international level, Dr. Claus Oliver Schmidt becomes Symrise’s Senior Vice President, Global Quality Control & Regulatory and Innovation Management. Dr. Schmidt transfers to the United States from Germany where he previously held and now retains his position at the helm of Innovation Management. His responsibilities in the United States will cover the entire area of Regulatory and Quality Control as well as the strengthening of innovation efforts to create additional value to Symrise’s North American key customers. Dr. Schmidt continues as a member of Symrise’s Global Flavor Leadership Team.

Bringing an extensive background in the beverage industry from past senior management positions at IFF and Givaudan Flavors, Scott Mortensen joins Symrise’s Flavor & Nutrition Division, North America, as Senior Vice President, Beverages Unit. Mr. Mortensen has both Global and Regional responsibilities, reporting respectively to Global President Dr. Heinz-Juergen Bertram, and Dr. Guentert, North America’s Regional President. He was also named as a member of the Global Flavor Leadership Team.

In speaking of the future direction of the North American team, Dr. Guentert stated, “We will be focusing on the core business of Symrise’s Flavor & Nutrition Division, North America, bringing it to new heights. In all that we do, we’ll demonstrate a strong reassurance to customers by performing as a true and steadfast leader in the flavor industry, following our mission of ‘always inspiring more’. We are committed to addressing and overcoming the many issues which challenge our industry, finding the solutions that will foster continued mutual growth for Symrise and our customers.”  Symrise is recognized as among the top five flavor suppliers in North America.
