Gadot Biochemical Ind.
Gadot Biochemical Ind. (GBI) has introduced a patent-pending calcium citrate compound branded as Gadocal K for soy milk and milk drinks. Gadocal K is specifically designed to provide the perfect calcium fortification solution for soy milk, fluid-milk, smoothies, infant formula and other milk replacements.
The chemical composition and physical characteristics of the Gadocal K were recently developed in Gadot's R&D laboratories to enable creating and maintaining a stable suspension without a gritty mouth feel. The addition of Gadocal K to soy milk and to other dairy alternatives causes no sedimentation and no protein coagulation.
Gadocal K can be added up to a level of at least 300mg per serving (240ml ~ 8oz.), which is approximately 30% of calcium RDA (the same amount as in cow milk).
"Creating a stable suspension in milk drinks and soy milk and avoiding any sedimentation could be easily achieved by using Gadocal K, without adding any stabilizer such as hydrocolloid," explains Ronny Hacham, VP of business development and marketing at Gadot. "Calcium fortification is essential in soy milk and vegetarian infant formula in order to obtain the required calcium RDA."
Gadocal K is a unique form of calcium potassium citrate. It contains about 15% elemental calcium, about 6% elemental potassium and is designed to maintain complete dispersion capability when added to solutions with a neutral pH.
"We developed a calcium potassium citrate compound with a synergistic effect in order to increase calcium absorption. According to many studies, potassium citrate may contribute to a higher bioavailability of calcium," says Hacham.
