Film offers aggressive sealing through product contamination

Rollprint Packaging Products, Inc. has developed a cost-effective packaging film that aggressively seals through food product contamination.

Rollprint’s Legato lidding film is an oriented polyester film, extrusion-coated with Allegro M sealant. Rollprint’s proprietary Allegro M has enhanced chemical qualities which give it an improved ability to seal through contamination.

The transparent lidstock seals to numerous rigid cup or tray structures including high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), amorphous polyethylene terephthalate (APET) and polypropylene (PP).

Rollprint’s Legato film is a lower-cost alternative with improved peelability for those applications currently relying on ionomer-based films for their tough-to-seal needs. The lidding film seals at low temperatures and also offers a wide operating window.

The lidstock is ideal for food applications that are more challenging to seal due to particulate or liquid contamination on the sealing surface. Typical cup/tray applications include condiments, yogurts, sauces, gravies, pickles, relishes, salsas, sauerkraut, jalapeños, etc. The film also performs well in the presence of brine solution and residual food particulates.

In addition to its sealing properties, the film’s excellent stress crack resistance helps the structure stand up to transport challenges, thereby minimizing the chance of leakers.

Rollprint’s Legato film is FDA-approved for direct food contact and is suitable for use with frozen foods. Additionally, it has a good thermal and dimensional stability as well as a microbial barrier. It is also suitable for radiation sterilization.
