Peanut butter boasts omega-3s and olive oil
Chicago-based Hearts&Minds LLC debuts Hearts&Minds Peanut Butter with Olive Oil and Omega-3 (EPA/DHA). The company claims that this natural peanut butter is the first to use olive oil and omega-3s, and it tastes more intensely peanuty than regular peanut butter. Like natural peanut butter, it does separate, but the company will be launching a non-stir version later this year.
Hearts&Minds peanut butter offers 100 milligrams of omega-3s per serving, which promote brain, eye and heart health, while heart-healthy olive oil replaces 40 percent of the peanut oil.
The patent-pending formulation with olive oil and omega-3s allows Hearts&Minds to be the first peanut butter with a health claim: “Limited and inconclusive scientific evidence suggests that eating about two tablespoons of olive oil daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due to the monounsaturated fat in olive oil … One serving of this product contains 6 grams of olive oil.”
Hearts&Minds Peanut Butter is available in Crunchy and Creamy varieties in California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri and Wyoming, although distribution is increasing.
