Probiotic Supplement for Dogs Helps Nutritionally Manage Digestive Upsets

Category: New Food Products

Product Type: Pet Foods

Manufacturer: Procter & Gamble

In pursuit of their mission to enhance the lives of pets, Iams Veterinary Formulas, a brand of Dayton, Ohio-based Procter & Gamble Petcare, launches ProstoraMax, a probiotic supplement for dogs that helps nutritionally manage digestive upsets — such as diarrhea — and helps maintain digestive health.

This dietary supplement delivers clinical results with the canine-derived probiotic strain Bifidobacterium animalis. In development since 2001, the proprietary strain of probiotics in Prostora Max was developed in partnership with Alimentary Health Ltd. of Cork, Ireland, a leader in the research, discovery and clinical development of probiotics.

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that provide health benefits — to man and dog. These microbial gut flora are critical to a dog's immune system and important in the maintenance of gastroinestinal (GI) health. In fact, imbalances in the gut flora could cause GI disruption. With new research, it is becoming evident that there are differences among probiotic strains with respect to the types of benefits they are capable of providing. Different strains of the same species have been noted to vary in effective characteristics, including stability, survivability and, perhaps most importantly, clinical efficacy.

Prostora Max is available only through veterinarians. It comes in a soft, tasty, chewable treat form that dogs love. This form makes dosing simple and provides a rewarding interaction between owner and dog.
