Ben & Jerry's Unveils Greek Frozen Yogurt
Noting the incredible growth in the Greek yogurt category, Burlington, Vt.-based Ben & Jerry's, a wholly owned subsidiary of Unilever, introduces a line of Greek Frozen Yogurt., Greek yogurt now accounts for more than $1 billion in revenue a year, about a quarter of total yogurt sales, according to a report from Citigroup Global Markets.
This indulgent dessert reaps the benefits of Greek yogurt, which is made through a traditional straining process that allows more of the whey to drain out and results in a thicker, smoother yogurt. Since the protein is higher and the calories are lower than Ben & Jerry's ice cream, the company is positioning Greek Frozen Yogurt as a healthy and tasty indulgent reward.
Flavors include: Strawberry Shortcake, Raspberry Fudge Chunk, Banana Peanut Butter and Blueberry Vanilla Graham.
"They're refreshing, they're fruity and are exactly the taste that fans expect from Ben & Jerry's," says Kirsten Schimoler, one of the flavor gurus behind the development of Greek frozen yogurt. "It's nice to have a wholesome indulgence that fits within my personal eating habits and tastes great." And she concludes, "We have worked hard to create the best, tasty, euphoric, chunky, swirly Ben & Jerry's version of Greek frozen yogurt, and we think it's pretty Greekin' good – we think you'll agree."
Suggested retail price for a pint is $4.39.
