Intelligent Protein Snacks Roll out 'Chips' Made from Egg Whites

March 28, 2013
Intelligent Protein Snacks, or "ips," are a new snacking concept based on the extra crispy edges of cooked egg whites.

Intelligent Protein Snacks, which goes by the shortened brand name of "ips," is a new snacking concept that complements today's trend in protein-enhanced diets.

The company combines corn, egg whites and other all-natural ingredients, including high-oleic sunflower oil for extra stability during processing and shelf life. Using a patent-pending Pressure-Puff process followed by toasting in an oven, the resulting crispy, gluten-free snack chips are high in protein. A 1-oz. serving contains 7g of protein, or as much protein as two egg whites. A serving also contains half the fat (4-5g, depending on variety) of fried potato chips and fewer carbs than baked chips.  Varieties are: Aged White Cheddar, Barbecue, Cinnamon Sugar and Sea Salt & Black Pepper.

The suggested retail price for a 1-oz. bag is $1.49 to $1.99. Later this year, the company plans to introduce multi-serving 3-oz. bags.
