A prebiotic fiber that is well tolerated and has a low glycemic response, it will help manufacturers add fiber to a wide range of foods and beverages including cereal coatings, snacks, soups, sauces and dressings, jams, fillings, puddings, confectionery, beverages and dairy products.

Barley gets the health claim
Barliv barley beta-glucan (barley betafiber) is a concentrated soluble fiber derived from barley. Clinical data show it has cholesterol-lowering properties similar to oats. Several studies also show its ability to improve “metabolic syndrome,” a group of risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including abdominal obesity, elevated serum triglycerides, low HDL (good) cholesterol, blood pressure of 130/85 or higher and elevated fasting blood glucose. Earlier this year, it won interim approval from the FDA to use the soluble fiber health claim for reduced risk of heart disease.

Doesn’t act like fiber
Fibersol-2 digestion-resistant maltodextrin is a soluble dietary fiber that doesn’t act like one. It doesn’t affect the taste of foods and doesn’t leave clear or transparent beverages cloudy or gritty. It also has rapid dispersion, very low viscosity, low sweetness and is acid, heat/retort and freeze/thaw stable. It’s water-binding, improves body and texture and is kosher and parve.
