Wings or veggies

Here's one for the record books. The National Chicken Council reports that Super Bowl weekend is decidedly the biggest time of the year for wings. Based on their stats, more than 1 billion wing portions were consumed during Super Bowl weekend, or more than 90 million pounds of wings.

But wait a second. According to data collected by the NPD Group during the most recent three Super Bowls, the top Super Bowl Sunday food is not chicken wings or pizza, but vegetables. Equally surprising is what many fans seemed willing to trade for all the tea in China: Tea ranked last on NPD Group's Top 10 Super Bowl Sunday Food and Drink list whereas beer remained altogether absent from the list.

Top 10 List of Super Bowl Sunday foods and drinks, which included items popular with consumers year-round: Vegetables; potatoes; carbonated soft drinks; total salty snacks; sandwiches; salads; chicken; milk; pizza and tea.
