Frozen Pasta Maker in N.Y. to Expand

The world’s largest maker of frozen tortellini is expanding to accommodate shifts in demand caused by the pandemic.

A company that bills itself as the world’s largest maker of frozen tortellini is expanding to accommodate shifts in demand caused by the pandemic.

Seviroli Foods Inc. plans to rent an additional 98,200 square feet in Hauppauge, N.Y., according to Newsday. Seviroli and an affiliated company, Vertullo Imports, are trying to adjust to a drop in their foodservice business and a simultaneous spike in demand for frozen and canned tortellini, ravioli and other pasta products.

“We’ve had to shift a little bit because the uncertainty of COVID is still there,” CEO Paul Vertullo told Newsday. “We’re trying to keep our people employed.”

Converting the rental building in Hauppauge to Seviroli’s needs will entail substantial improvements, including a new freezer, roof and connection to a sewage treatment plant. The building’s owner said that doing these improvements, which will cost $7.7 million, will be contingent on getting $1 million in tax breaks from a local development authority.
