Fairfield Gourmet Food Corp., owner of the David’s Cookies brand, will close its Longwood, Fla., desserts bakery, according to local news reports citing a notice sent to the state of Florida.

Fairfield, which is based in Cedar Grove, N.J., purchased the 26,000-sq.-ft. facility (named “Annie’s Euro American Bakery”) in 2010, and it has produced elegant desserts, including Premier Cakes and individual desserts, the company’s web site said.

The closure will result in 137 employees losing their jobs, with layoffs beginning July 31 and the full shutdown of the facility no later than Dec. 31. Layoffs would occur no later than Aug. 31, the news report stated, with some employees placed on-call with pay and insurance prior to their termination.
