370,000-sq.-ft. Humboldt, Tenn., plant should start production later this month.

Tyson Foods this week formally opened its newest poultry complex, a $425 million, 370,000-sq.-ft. project that includes a processing plant, feed mill and hatchery in Humboldt, Tenn. It's Tyson’s biggest investment in Tennessee; there are four others.

The project was first announced in 2017, with a planned start date in 2019. Then it was described as a $300 million project.

Tyson said "several hundred workers" have been hired so far and are being trained for the start of production later this month. It's expected to employ more than 1,500 by 2023.

The feed mill, which will supply feed for approximately 56 local poultry farmers, will employ 30 team members and produce 14,000 tons of finished feed a week when production reaches full capacity.

The hatchery employs 30 workers and provides chicks for local poultry farmers who supply broiler chickens to Tyson.
