Erie, Pa.-based snack pie manufacturer JTM Foods has opened its brand new processing plant in Wichita, Kan., according to news reports on the ribbon-cutting ceremony held last week. The owner of the JJ’s Snack Pies brand broke ground on the facility in 2022, and expects the facility to grow to employ up to 200 people by 2026.
The plant was built on blighted land in an industrial district created near Interstate 135 and 21st Street. When the expansion was announced by JTM and its financial partner Tenex Capital Management in 2022, the company anticipated investing $40 million to get the plant up and running. It is the first facility for the Erie processor outside the state of Pennsylvania.
Monty Pooley, president and CEO for JTM Foods, told another local news outlet that one processing line at the new Wichita facility could produce about 80 million pies per year, and that the expectation was that the Wichita plant would eventually match or exceed the 400 million pies that the company’s Erie facility manufactures every year.
