Honey Buns Baker Carolina Foods Opens New Pineville, North Carolina, Facility
Carolina Foods, manufacturer of honey buns, donuts, pastries and pies, has officially opened its new facility in Pineville, N.C., a suburb of Charlotte (its legacy location). The company, known best for its Duchess brand honey buns line, also celebrated its 90th birthday with the grand opening of the facility.
The new Pineville headquarters is part of a strategic growth plan three years in the making, spurred by an investment from Charlotte-based private-equity firm Falfurrias Capital Partners, the announcement noted.
Carolina Foods has begun operations at the facility, but it also will continue to install and start up additional production lines over the next several months that will eventually allow the plant to produce approximately twice the capacity of the Charlotte plant, which is expected to be phased out of service by the end of 2025. Future plans for the Charlotte property — which is still owned by Carolina Foods’ founding Scarborough family — have not yet been determined.
Paul Scarborough, son of Carolina Foods founder Vernon Scarborough, joined the company at the grand opening celebration, along with representatives from the local government and Falfurrias Capital Partners. Carolina Foods CEO Dan Myers called the move a “pivotal milestone” that “symbolizes a new era and the culmination of decades of dedication and commitment to the customers we serve.”
