Soli Organic Opens 140,000 Sq. Ft. Indoor Vertical Farm in San Antonio
Indoor agriculture and produce company Soli Organic Inc. has unveiled its newest indoor vertical farm in San Antonio, Texas, at the site of former Brooks Air Force Base. The project was first announced in November 2022.
The new facility features 100,000 sq. ft. of production space, with six vertical layers of growing capacity, and also houses 40,000 sq. ft. of processing and packing footprint. The farm will grow more than 10 crops, including basil, cilantro, mint, spinach, arugula and romaine lettuce.
Soli Organic believes the facility will help it meet rising retailer and consumer demand in Texas and across the U.S. Southwest. More than 100 jobs are expected to be created, including high-wage, high-skill tech positions in horticulture and manufacturing.
Soli Organic’s new farm features the company’s unique soil-based growing system and uses automation, lighting, organic fertigation, and vertical and horizontal space to maximize quality, yield and efficiency. The company claims the facility’s design enables growing crops with 90% less water on 1/100th of the land needed in traditional outdoor farming operations.
The release added that Soli Organic is actively scouting farm locations in the Northeast U.S., following the successful launch of a new indoor farm in Anderson, S.C.
