After a couple of delays, Nestlé will start up its newest factory in Smolyhiv, Ukraine, by the end of this year. 300 or more workers are being hired to make noodle products.

The food plant, a testament to Nestle’s support of the beleaguered country, has been under construction for some time in the Volyn oblast in northwestern part of the country. Originally, it was to begin production earlier this year.

Cost of the construction was not reported. Smolyhiv is just 40 miles from the border with Poland but about equally close to Belarus.

Nestlé also has a sauce-making factory in the adjacent town of Torchyn. The company, which says it employs around 5,500 in Ukraine, has two other production sites in the country: a coffee and confectionery facility in Lviv and a noodles plant in Kharkiv – all that according to GlobalData.

Nestlé also told GlobalData the plants in Smolyhiv and Torchyn will be a regional hub for its culinary products category, supplying customers in Ukraine and other markets in eastern Europe.
