Mexico’s Electrolit Plans First U.S. Production Facility in Waco, Texas
Hydration beverage processor Electrolit has unveiled plans to construct a $400 million manufacturing facility in Waco, Texas — its first U.S. production location. The greenfield project will span 600,000 sq. ft. and is expected to open in early 2026, according to a release from the company.
Electrolit is owned by by Pisa Pharmaceuticals, the largest pharmaceutical company in Mexico and Latin America, and first entered the U.S. market in 2014. In October 2023, Keurig Dr Pepper (our 2024 Processor of the Year) entered into an agreement to sell, distribute and merchandise Electrolit in the U.S. The resulting growing demand for the drink has pushed the company to build this new facility, the release noted.
The plant will be constructed in Waco’s largest industrial park, Texas Central Park. The facility is expected to be highly automated and still employ more than 200 skilled professionals and technicians. It reportedly will have the capacity to incorporate non-virgin and recycled packaging materials as available, in an attempt to comply with state plastic usage regulations, and rail transport of finished products is expected to help reduce carbon emissions significantly. The company is already designing the facility to accommodate future expansions as well.
