Perdido River Meats Beef Plant Opens in Atmore, Alabama

Feb. 7, 2025
Poarch Creek Indians tribe cuts the ribbon on its new, 23,000-sq.-ft. beef-processing facility and retail store.

Perdido River Meats, a new beef-processing plant in Atmore, Ala., was officially opened by the Poarch Creek Indians on Feb. 6, 2025, in a ribbon cutting ceremony reported by local news outlets.

The 23,000-sq.-ft. plant ended up costing $29 million and more than a year and a half to build since the groundbreaking ceremony in May 2023. The facility was called the largest plant of its type operating in the entire state of Alabama, and it will give local cattle ranchers a closer destination for their livestock.

The Poarch Creek Indian tribe already had been raising cattle on its 2,900-acre Perdido River Farm property, so construction of the facility made sense. The building currently processes beef only, and it was reported that about 50 head per day was the current capacity — eventually the plant hopes to process pork as well. It also includes a retail store, which officially opened during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
