Sargento Plans Historic Investment in New Processing Plant in Plymouth

May 23, 2025
The Wisconsin cheese processor wants to build a 384,000-sq.-ft. facility to replace current operations in Plymouth, Wis. — a project that would be the largest investment in Sargento history.

Cheese maker Sargento announced it will build a new processing plant in Plymouth, Wis. — a project that supports the company’s “ambitious” growth plans and represents the largest investment in Sargento history (though the cost of the project was not disclosed), according to a release shared with Food Processing.

At this time, Sargento said the plan will be to relocate manufacturing from its current Plymouth campus to the new facility, and it does not expect any new jobs to be created as a result. However, there will be room for future expansion, which could create jobs down the road.

The project is still pending Plymouth city approval, and if that happens at the July city council meeting, Sargento said it could begin site preparation this fall and construction in the spring of 2026.

The plant, which will be situated on a 66-acre plot of land recently purchased by the company, will span 384,000 sq. ft. and will feature the latest and greatest technology. Sargento said the facility will offer enhanced employee ergonomics as well.

On that timeline, the plant would be completed and phased-in occupancy could begin in 2027.
