Formosa Food Co. Inc., a processor that specializes in producing traditional Taiwanese pork products sold nationally in Asian grocery stores, broke ground on its new Sioux Falls, S.D., headquarters and processing facility this week, according to local news reports.

Formosa is building the 40,000-sq.-ft. facility on eight acres of land in Sioux Falls, moving to the city after spending 42 years based in Hull, Iowa, in the northwest part of the state. The company, owned by third-generation sisters Heather and Jennifer Shih, uses recipes for traditional pork sung and pork fu developed by their grandparents in Taiwan during the 1950s. The Shih sisters’ parents came to the U.S. and founded Formosa in 1983.

The company expects the new facility to open in 2027, the report noted.
