UK-based Hilton Foods to Supply Walmart Canada, Will Build New Canadian Plant to Meet Demand

Sept. 22, 2023
The new facility in eastern Canada is expected to begin operations in 2026 and will be the UK processor’s first North American plant.

Hilton Food Group plc has signed a long-term supply agreement with Wal-Mart Canada Corp., and will open a new manufacturing facility in eastern Canada in order to meet the supply — its first North American processing facility.

Hilton Foods will supply a variety of protein products, starting with beef, lamb, pork and seafood, and eventually supplying some value-added products, a release said. The new facility will feature robotic order picking into Walmart’s distribution centers.

Hilton Foods will use its newly formed subsidiary Hilton Foods Canada Inc. to finance the new facility, and operations are expected to begin in 2026. Hilton Foods intends to lease the facility.

Hilton Foods produces protein products in meat, seafood, vegan and vegetarian, and easier meals categories, and also provides supply chain services, in 24 facilities across Europe, Asia Pacific and North American markets.
