JBS Canada will build an $80 million distribution center, which will include a new ground beef patty line to serve Wendy’s restaurants, in Brooks, Alberta, Canada, according to a local news report. The distribution center will be one of the largest in North America, Celio Fritche, president of JBS Canada, told the audience at a groundbreaking ceremony last week.
JBS CEO Wesley Batista Filho attended the groundbreaking and told the crowd that the plant was a benchmark facility in terms of food safety, employee turnover and product quality for the entire company, and was appreciative that Wendy’s trusted JBS to produce its primary product out of the Brooks facility.
JBS acquired the Brooks facility in 2013 from XL Foods, and it has invested more than $250 million in the plant since then, according to Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who was quoted in the news story.
