McCormick & Co. Increases Ownership in Mexican Joint Venture McCormick de Mexico to 75%

Acquisition of additional 25% ownership interest for $750 million maintains the partnership with Grupo Herdez but puts McCormick in the driver’s seat for expansion in Latin America.

McCormick & Co. Inc. has completed its acquisition of an additional 25% ownership in McCormick de Mexico from Grupo Herdez, according to a release from the company. McCormick now holds a 75% share in the Mexican joint venture that has been in existence since 1947.

McCormick funded the purchase price of $750 million through a combination of cash on hand and commercial paper, the release noted. It expects to use the platform to further expand in Latin America, leveraging expertise in category management, insight-driven innovation and marketing to expand in adjacent categories and increase channel penetration, Brendan Foley, chairman, president and chief executive officer, said.
