Maple Leaf Foods Introduces Canada Packers Inc. as Future Pork Company Name
When Maple Leaf Foods announced it would spin off its pork business into a new, independent publicly traded company in July, the future company didn’t have a name — now, it does.
Maple Leaf introduced Canada Packers Inc. as the name of the pork company once it officially separates from the Maple Leaf business, a transaction expected to happen in 2025. Current president of Maple Leaf Foods’ Pork Complex, Dennis Organ, will be the CEO of Canada Packers, which will build on a Maple Leaf’s nearly century-long legacy in the pork business.
The new Canada Packers logo features a capital C and P and the maple leaf from the Canadian flag. It uses blue and green tones to reflect sustainability and the natural, primary colors of the Canadian landscape.
Maple Leaf Foods anticipates the split will create a sharpened focus for both companies, as well as the financial independence to pursue value creation without interfering with one another. Maple Leaf will continue to operate as a consumer-packaged goods company after the separation. In addition, Maple Leaf Foods will retain a 19.9% ownership position in Canada Packers, and the two companies will enter into an evergreen pork supply agreement, giving Maple Leaf a consistent pork supply and Canada Packers a built-in North American customer.
