Sauer Brands, producer of Duke’s Mayonnaise and other condiments, has bought an independent processor of shelf-stable salsa.

The acquisition of Mateo’s Gourmet Salsa was announced Sept. 30. Terms were not disclosed.

This is the second acquisition by Sauer since it was bought by Falfurrias Capital Partners in 2019. The first was the 2020 purchase of Kernel Season’s, a popcorn seasoning brand.

Mateo’s, started in 2010, has nationwide distribution through retailers including Costco, Walmart, Target, Publix and Kroger.

"Joining with a company like Sauer Brands, which has so many resources and such an impressive track record, is extremely gratifying, and I can't wait to see what the Mateo's brand will achieve during this next phase of its growth," Mateo’s founder Andrew Robbins said in a statement.
