Danone Buys Plant-Based Analogue Company

In a bid to expand its portfolio of plant-based products, Danone is purchasing Earth Island, a Los Angeles-based maker of analogue dairy and other products.

Earth Island’s products are marketed under the Follow Your Heart label. They include Veganaise, a mayonnaise substitute, as well as no-dairy cheese and yogurt, plant-based egg substitutes, pancake batter and more.

The acquisition agreement was announced Feb. 19. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Danone has made plant-based products a priority. Its goal is to bring worldwide sales of plant-based products, currently at about $2.4 billion, to $6 billion by 2025.
