Patagonia Acquires Moonshot, Maker of Earth-Friendly Crackers

March 8, 2023
Patagonia Provisions, the food & beverage division the outdoor outfitter, is boosting its existing food offerings with the addition of Moonshot, a Planet Forward brand.

In an effort to boost its food offerings, Patagonia, an outfitter of hiking gear with a strong dedication to saving the planet, has acquired Moonshot, a maker of “nutritious crackers with a materially improved carbon footprint.” Price was not disclosed.

The acquisition – “a first in more than 20 years for Patagonia” – will be folded into Patagonia Provisions, the existing food & beverage division of Patagonia, which sells Earth-friendly products with an emphasis on camping food, many of them shelf-stable and in tins.

Moonshot, which was owned by Planet Forward Inc., “was created to be the first climate-friendly snack brand with the mission of tackling the climate crisis through the power of responsible food supply chains,” the announcement said.

“Moonshot’s main ingredient, wheat, is grown with regenerative and organic practices and is traceable to the farm and field. What’s more, Moonshot designed a micro supply chain, with its wheat farmers, miller and manufacturer within 100 miles of each other, resulting in a lower carbon footprint.

“As consumers become increasingly aware of the role the food system plays in the climate crisis, many are seeking foods with an improved environmental impact. Patagonia Provisions is meeting this rising consumer demand for climate-friendly foods by sourcing ingredients that rebuild soil, protect the health of ocean ecosystems and otherwise protect the environment,” the release said.
