Flying Dog Brewing Acquired by Contract Brewing Partner in New York

135-year-old F.X. Matt Brewing Co. adds the Maryland brewer’s beer lineup to its brand portfolio, will move operations to Utica, N.Y.

F.X. Matt Brewing Co. of Utica, N.Y., has acquired Frederick, Md.-based Flying Dog Brewing, according to news reports. F.X. Matt Brewing has been co-manufacturing some Flying Dog beers for about a decade, and with this acquisition, all of Flying Dog’s production will be moved out of Frederick.

Flying Dog ranks 35th on the list of largest craft breweries in the U.S., according to ProBrewer, while F.X. Matt is a 135-year-old brewer of a variety of soft drinks, Utica Club and Saranac beer. Flying Dog production is expected to cease its Frederick operations in August, though the taproom and innovation brewery in the Frederick area are expected to remain operational.
