SugarCreek Packing Acquires Italian Meat Processor Veroni S.p.A.
SugarCreek Packing Co. has acquired Italian-based Veroni S.p.A., according to a release from the company.
Veroni is headquartered in Correggio, Italy, and operates six processing facilities in northern Italy as well as a slicing plant in the U.S. The company produces more than 600 products focused on cured meats and charcuterie in worldwide distribution. It recently unveiled its animal well-being program at the IDDBA Show and announced the addition of “Humanely Raised Meat” to its packaging to call out the standards its producers follow.
The addition of Veroni widens the product portfolio of Ohio-based SugarCreek, and gives Veroni a stronger foothold in the U.S. marketplace. The release notes that SugarCreek is willing to invest in the expansion and modernization of Veroni’s production sites in Italy and the U.S. moving forward.
Daniel Hammer, sr. vice president of international business development for SugarCreek, will become CEO of Veroni USA and a director for Veroni S.p.A. as well. Guido and Marco Veroni, current managing directors for Veroni S.p.A., will keep their roles and manage the company, the release states. No changes to management or employees’ status was expected at the time of the announcement.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
