Unilever to Add Yasso Brand, Boost Premium Ice Cream Portfolio
Unilever announced that it has agreed to purchase Yasso Holdings Inc., processor of frozen Greek yogurt. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Yasso was founded in 2009 and offers low-calorie, convenient frozen snacks. Yasso’s current product line features items that contain less than 150 calories each. The brand offers 11 flavors of novelty stick bars, four flavors of chocolate crunch bars, three frozen Greek yogurt sandwiches, three flavors of bite-size Yasso Poppables and four Yasso Mochi.
Unilever explained in a release that the acquisition aligns with the ice cream business group’s strategy of premiumization — with Yasso joining Unilever brands such as Ben & Jerry’s, Magnum and Talenti. Unilever acquired Ben & Jerry’s in 2000 and Talenti in 2014.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2023, subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
