Dearborn, Mich.-based Dearborn Sausage Co. will acquire four meat brands from the Alexander & Hornung business owned by Perdue Premium Meat Co. in the Great Lakes region, according to a release from Dearborn. Joining the Dearborn portfolio are Butcher Boy, Virginia Davis Brand, Brookside Brand and Farmer Peet.
The Alexander & Hornung business operated out of PPMC’s St. Clair Shores, Mich., processing facility, which PPMC acquired in 2020. It does not appear all four brands were produced at the site, but PPMC announced it was closing the plant last month.
Butcher Boy is known for its boneless hams and hot dogs. Virginia Davis Brand produces a variety of products including Davis Brand Chili, headcheese and souse, as well as mild, hot, beef, and beef and pork smoked sausages.
Cleveland, Ohio’s Brookside Brand manufactures premium, fully cooked, natural casing beef wieners and smoked sausages. Farmer Peet created beef sticks, boneless hams and pickled bologna, some of which were co-manufactured by Dearborn — which intends to revive and expand the brand’s offerings.
Dearborn expects to revive some of the allure and product lines these brands offered that were revered by consumers for a long time. The company was founded in 1946 and employs more than 250 people.
