Walden Local Meat Acquires Full Controlling Interest in Vermont Packinghouse

Massachusetts-based Walden has been a partial owner of Vermont Packinghouse since 2020 and acquired remaining interest from Lorentz Meats.

Massachusetts-based Walden Local Meat has fully acquired Vermont Packinghouse (VPH), purchasing the majority interest in the regional meat-processing facility in Springfield, Vt., from Lorentz Meats, according to a release. VPH is a USDA-inspected, large-animal beef and pork processing facility that services more than 100 farms in the Northeast. Walden has been a customer of VPH since 2017 and partial owner since 2020.

Walden’s stated mission is to service communities across New England and New York with sustainably and humanely raised meat. The company says the acquisition reflects its commitment to building out its supply chain, serve farmers in the Northeast and grow the market for local meat.
