Windham Foundation, based in Grafton, Vt., has stewarded Grafton Village Cheese for more than half-century as a commercial enterprise aligned with the foundation’s mission to enhance economic, cultural and civic life in rural Vermont.
Vermont Farmstead Cheese Co. has a similar story, born from a community’s dedication to preserving a local farm and its picturesque rural landscape. This dairy farm evolved into an award-winning cheese company, crafting a new generation of distinctive farmstead and artisanal cheeses.
“This strategic move is driven by mutual goals for the long-term success and health of GVCC, a commitment to preserving the rich traditions of artisanal cheese production in Vermont and a passion for Vermont’s agriculture industry,” said a joint statement. “The team at Vermont Farmstead is investing in GVCC to help ensure this vision remains real.”
Kent Underwood, president/COO of Vermont Farmstead, added, “Creating a singular organization enables us to leverage our collective expertise, optimize operations and create efficiencies across all areas of our business - from cheesemaking to marketing and distribution.”
