Mary’s Gone Crackers Sold to Canada’s Dare Foods
Japan’s Kameda Seika Co. has agreed to sell its Mary’s Gone Crackers subsidiary in the U.S. to Rosseau Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Canadian food company Dare Foods Ltd. Financial details were not spelled out, but a Japanese public filing listed “share capital” at nearly $41 million.
The purpose, according to the filing, is “concentrating management resources on the growth of TH Foods Inc.,” Kameda’s other U.S. subsidiary.
Mary’s Gone Crackers was founded in 2004 and has been owned by Kameda since 2012. It specializes in organic, kosher, gluten-free and non-GMO crackers, many with seeds and many using rice flour, as does Kameda in Japan.
The filing indicated Mary’s sales in 2022 and 2023 were $38 million and $36 million, respectively, and losses in those years were $20 million and $22 million.
TH Foods, formerly Terra Harvest, also makes crackers. In 2018 it acquired Terri Lynn, a processor of nuts, dried fruits and chocolate- and yogurt-coated products specializing in fundraising and commercial applications. TH has been owned at least partially by Kameda since 1989.
