Private equity-backed Guenther expands its tortilla production with Fresca’s Idaho plant and strengthens foodservice partnerships.

C.H. Guenther & Son LLC on June 23 announced it had acquired Fresca Mexican Foods LLC, a manufacturer of flour tortillas, corn tortillas and tortilla chips based near Boise, Idaho. Price was not disclosed.

The transaction expands the tortilla manufacturing capacity of Guenther, originally a commercial baker, and deepens its relationships with foodservice and premier quick service restaurant customers. Included are Fresca’s product portfolio, facilities and team.

Fresca, which has been operating since 1977, has a 190,000-sq.-ft. facility in Caldwell, Idaho, and employs approximately 375 full-time.

“The company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and strategic partnerships with some of the most prominent fast casual and QSR chains in North America are a great fit as we continue to execute our growth strategy,” said Rod Hepponstall, Guenther’s president/CEO.

C.H. Guenther & Son is owned by Pritzker Private Capital, along with management and co-investors. CHG has more than 5,000 employees in 30 food manufacturing locations in the U.S., Canada and Western Europe, and in its corporate office in San Antonio, Texas.
