Chicago-based Zing Zang, producer of Bloody Mary and non-alcoholic drink mixer products, has been acquired by Mizkan America Inc., according to a release shared by the company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mizkan said in the release that the acquisition feeds into a key growth engine for the company, the cocktail mixers category, and Mizkan’s position as a pasta sauce manufacturer, with its expertise in tomato-based foods, should help spur innovation and growth in both areas.

Mizkan expects to fold Zing Zang into its internal “Inspired Mixology” strategy, by which the company is driving innovation and potentially reimagining the cocktail/mocktail experience for consumers by creating fun, flavorful and on-trend libations, it said in the release.

Diego Palmieri, president and COO of Mizkan America, called the acquisition an “exciting addition” that “solidifies the company’s position in a growing third space” in addition to U.S. pasta sauce and vinegar categories.

Zing Zang products are made with real fruit and vegetable juices and natural sweeteners, and it carries such products as Bloody Mary Mix, Blazing Bloody Mary Mix, Dill Pickle Bloody Mary Mix and Michelada Mix, among others. It was founded in 1997.

Mizkan’s release noted that Zing Zang LLC will operate as a separate business for the foreseeable future. The Mount Prospect, Ill.-based Mizkan America owns such pasta and vinegar brands as Ragu, Bertolli, Holland House, Nakano, Mizkan, and Born Simple. It also is the exclusive distributor and sales agent for Angostura bitters in North America.
