B&G Foods Inc. has sold its Le Sueur brand of sweet peas, green beans and carrots to McCall Farms Inc., according to a release distributed by the company. The sale is the latest trim of the company’s portfolio over the last two years and “represents continued progress in our ongoing efforts to reshape our portfolio, sharpen focus on our core brands and reduce long-term debt,” said Casey Keller, president and chief executive officer of B&G Foods.

McCall Farms was established in 1954 in Effingham, S.C., and today operates a canning and freezing business, selling products under such national brands as Margaret Holmes, Peanut Patch Boiled Peanuts, Glory Foods, Bruce’s Yams, Princella, Allens, and Popeye. The company employs more than 1,000 people in a 1.1-million-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility, according to McCall’s web site.

In November 2023, B&G sold the Green Giant canned vegetable product line to Seneca Foods Corp., retaining ownership of the brand (which it licensed to Seneca). That transaction did not include the Green Giant frozen, Green Giant Canada or Le Sueur products — but now Le Sueur is heading out the door as well.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and this transaction does not include the Le Sieur brand in Canada, the company noted. Proceeds from the sale will be used to repay long-term debt and purchase assets for B&G’s business, as well as to pay taxes, fees and expenses related to the sale, the company noted.
