The Marzetti Co. has agreed to acquire Japanese barbecue sauce brand Bachan’s Inc. for $400 million, expanding its position in the sauce category, according to a release from Marzetti. It is getting a brand that recorded net sales (12 mos. ended Dec. 31, 2025) of about $87 million.

Marzetti will fund the acquisition with cash on hand and additional financing, with the transaction expected to close prior to June 30, 2026, the end of Marzetti’s fiscal year. Marzetti looks to broaden distribution of the brand, support product innovation and extend Bachan’s into new channels and adjacent categories.

The Sebastopol, Calif.-based Bachan’s was founded by Justin Gill in 2019, bringing his bachan’s (grandma’s) sauce recipes to a wider audience and growing the brand over the years. He said in the release that he is “honored to partner with The Marzetti Company for the next stage of making my vision for Bachan’s a reality.”

Bachan’s joins the Marzetti portfolio, which includes Marzetti dressings and dips, New York Bakery garlic breads and Sister Schubert’s dinner rolls, as well as exclusively licensed products under the Olive Garden, Chick-fil-A and Buffalo Wild Wings names, among others.
