How Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum Could Impact Food & Beverage
Wyoming Public Radio wrote a nice piece on the effect of steel and aluminum tariffs on food and beverage products.
The tariffs on steel and aluminum aren't new, the article points out. In fact, it was Trump who implemented them during his first term in office, and the Biden administration kept them in place, although the tariff on aluminum was only 10%. The new 25% rates are scheduled to go into effect March 12.
The public radio station quotes Alter Brewing, a Downers Grove, Ill., craft brewer; Heyday Canning Co. of Capitola, Calif.; Consumer Brands Assn.; Can Manufacturers Institute; and the Aluminum Assn. And it notes James Quincey, Coca-Cola's chairman and CEO, recently said if aluminum cans became too expensive, the company could package more of its drinks in plastic bottles.
It’s worth a read.
