Bakery Barn LLC, a manufacturer of nutrition bars, will close its Pleasant Hills, Pa., factory in August, idling 82 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.

“Changing business needs require us to close this facility,” according to the WARN notice. The company is apparently partially owned by an affiliate of Bain Capital.

Bakery Barn is a contract manufacturer of baked products – including protein cookies, brownies, granola bars, and multi-layer baked bars – for both brands and private label.

The company began in early 2000 after creating a baked protein meal replacement, according to its website. Its claim to fame was “all of our bars are baked... Baked bars have a superior flavor, texture, and shelf stability when compared to traditional cold-extruded bars.”

It’s possible some laid-off employees could be offered work in a nearby Bakery Barn plant.
